Soundboard Description
  • Volunteering as a sound engineer in a church means helping manage the audio during services and events. This includes setting up microphones and instruments, adjusting sound levels so everyone can hear clearly, and making sure the music and speech sound good both in the room and online. It’s a way to use technical skills to support worship and help create a smooth, distraction-free experience for the congregation. To have a basic understanding of EQ and how our stage is set up is crucial to being a sound engineer.
  • Responsibilities
    1. Before Worship Practice
      1. Turn on key drive, and all projectors/tv’s
      2. Change batteries in all mics
      3. Test audio in FOH
      4. Clean up stage and add instruments if necessary
    2. Practice
      1. Make sure all worship teams has in ears to satisfactory levels
      2. Check volume overall and talk with the team if needed. Making sure all instruments and vocals are heard
    3. Main Service
      1. Keep worship around 90-95dbs, speaking around 75dbs
      2. Keep volume of the room “full” constantly watching that you don't have one instrument or vocal overpowering everything else
 
As sound engineers, we are constantly looking for ways to improve our mix. If that is adding effects or gates/compression. This job can seem very big, but learning what each knob does is very important. We have the ability to Google anything problem you might be having. Don't be afraid to try something you or experiment during practice. This position is always evolving and changing on a weekly basis.
